Moving your piece around the board, you must enter the castle and avoid getting hit by the tumbling skull's traps. These are a falling axe, shaky floor, skeleton that comes to life or being directly knocked down the castle stairs. If you make it to the top of the castle, the top step closes the coffin lid and you lay the ghost to rest.
Ghost Castle was a 1980s update of a game first published in 1970, in the US by Milton Bradley and the UK by Denys Fisher toys. Originally called Which Witch?, it also went by the names Haunted House and Spook Slot and is currently in a licenced Scooby Doo character incarnation. It was designed by Marvin Glass and his team, the people behind Operation, Mouse Trap and Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.

Physical description | Cardboard box lid and base with red plastic inner packaging. Lid printed with photographic depiction of children playing the board game, with instructions on inside. Printed rectangular cardboard board with four room designs, with, when assembled, a plastic and cardboard construction representing a castle with printed cardboard walls, moving plastic axe, cardboard and plastic moving floor piece, cardboard and plastic moving mirror, and central plastic tower and staircase with coffin at the pinnacle. Printed and varnished square card, with spiderweb design and repeating images of a skull, a foot print and scared face relating to pieces/moves in the game, with plastic spinner and spider. Four cardboard playing pieces, three with a plastic base (the red plastic base was missing before acquisition). Designed to look like scared children: two boys, one with a blue and one with a yellow jumper; two girls, one with a green jumper and one with a red jumper (missing red plastic base). White plastic moulded masks with a shocked facial expression, designed to fit over the playing pieces A die: carved wooden cube with rounded corners painted white with black dots on each face. Glow in the dark plastic miniature human skull shaped bead, with red dots painted in the eyes. |
