‘Nowhere Near Here’ is a stop motion film that uses a combination of light with stencil and long exposure photography to tell the story of a dog running through the city at night. Pahnl spent over 300 hours and cut more than 200 stencils to make the work. He started out with a rough story board to plot the action and scouted locations for the scenes in and around Oxford. Stencils were designed and cut for each frame of movement. These were later photographed in the street whilst a light was flashed through them. The result is an image of the stencil design having been burnt into the scene. The photographs were sequenced together on a computer along with the music to create the film.
