Place of origin |
This fashion design shows a woman wearing a white evening dress with a bouffant, or puffed out, skirt designed by Marjorie Field for the haute couture firm Field Rhoades which was registered in the London street directories at 77, South Audley Street, London W1 for the years 1948 to 1949. The design is coupled with a type-written description of the dress, detailing the material out of which it is intended to be made, available colours, size suitability, and price (E.483:6-2006). The dress was available in white or black faille, which is a plain woven textile, originally of silk now also made of wool, characterised by slight, flat ribs in the weft, and used for women's dresses. The dress was also available in pink, white or pale blue satin with narrow gold pipings. The design would have been used as a presentation drawing and forms part of an album of 12 designs with accompanying descriptions from which the client could choose what she wanted to have made.
