  • Gallery 101, Nineteenth Century Europe 18 Steel Vase About 1855 Shown at the International Exhibition, Paris, 1855 Rudolphi was trained in Copenhagen but worked in Paris, registering his mark in 1842. He won a medal at the Great Exhibition in 1851 and was later awarded the Légion d’Honneur in France. This vase combines virtuoso craftsmanship with inventive decoration drawn from Middle Eastern sources. France, Paris; designed and made by Frédéric-Jules Rudolphi Steel, inlaid with gold and silver; mounts, oxidised silver set with emeralds and rubies; interior and base, gilded silver Bought at the exhibition for £150 Museum no. 2654-1856 (2006-2016)
