  • Vase and Tripod About 1862 Shown at the International Exhibition, London, 1862 The magazine The Builder singled out this vase for praise at the 1862 exhibition. It described it as 'a metal vase, the whole surface of which is covered with a Byzantine arabesque, similar in character to the illuminations found in Greek manuscripts of the eleventh or twelfth century'. This, said The Builder, 'cannot fail to gratify the eye.' France, Prais; possibly designed by Louis Constant Sévin and made by Ferdinand Barbedienne Gilded bronze, with champlevé enamel Bought at the exhibition for £110(05/04/2017)
  • 'American and European Art and Design 1800-1900' This vase and tripod was purchased from the London 1862 Exhibition for £110. Barbedienne showed several enamelled objects in 1862, when the technique was wrongly described as cloisonné. This vase was singled out for praise by the magazine, The Builder: "a metal vase, the whole surface of which is covered with a Byzantine arabesque, similar in character to the illuminations found in Greek manuscripts of the eleventh or twelfth century...cannot fail to gratify the eye."(1987-2006)
