Rousseau, a designer in his own right, also commissioned and produced a wide variety of ceramics and glass. He made his own glass, but little is known about his ceramic productions, some of which he sold through his shop in Rue Cocquillière, Paris. This tile panel, of a Swiss or German standard bearer of about 1500, is one of two in the museum, described in the registers as 'Transferred from Structure'. It seems possible that they may have been intended to decorate the old Ceramic Gallery, under construction in the 1860s.(1987-2006) |
