Object history | Shown at the Paris 1867 Exhibition, this dish was part of a collection of Lobmeyr's products bought to serve as examples of good design with cheap manufacture. |
Historical context | A collection of Lobmeyr's products was bought for the "benefit of the Schools of Science and Art in the United Kingdom ... [and] the manufacturing industry of Great Britain and Ireland". Lobmeyr's display at the Paris 1867 Exhibition was singled out as "designed by eminent artists", "produced at small cost" and of "high character in Art" both in "elegancies" and "articles of daily use". |
