This necklace was exhibited by Alessandro Castellani at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876. It appears on an itemised list of jewellery which survives in the National Archives and Records Administration in Philadelphia. The necklace was bought by the Museum from the collection of Alessandro Castellani in 1884.
