BOWL 1309-1900 'American and European Art and Design 1800-1900' One of a group of vessels bought from the makers, all of them imitating known pieces: this is a copy of a bowl of about 1450 which belonged to the maker. The technique of decoration is called sgraffito . Carlo Loretz was a ceramic painter who worked in a number of factories and founded his own in Milan in 1896; it was continued until 1909 by his son, Giano.(1987-2006)
