This sofa prototype, called ‘Magazine Sofa’, was designed by Michael Young in 1994. As the name suggests, the sofa has a dual purpose: it offers both seating and storage, with the vacuum compartment underneath the seat designed to house magazines. In this design Young explored the organic forms of the 1960s and early 70s, using elliptical shapes and playing with negative space. In 1996 the ‘Magazine Sofa’ won the best UK Design Award.
