Beechwood, in imitation of rosewood, and parcel gilt with velvet upholstered seat and back. The rear legs end with uprights framing the back formed of two straight vertical posts terminating in gilt pineapple finials. Reeded arms finishing in black leopards' heads. The arm supports and front legs of baluster form. The seat frame square and studded with small brass discs. Some brass discs on end of arm support.

Object history | Reupholstered in 1966 for Peter Thornton by Geoffrey Rose Ltd Old English Furniture, 77 Pimlico Road, London. The fringe is based on plate 22 of Thomas Hope's 'Household Furniture' 1807. The remainder of the fringe is in the upholstery fragments collection, NCOL.387-2019. One of either W.49 or 50-1949 was on display in 1972 (DFG abel is on file). |
