Platter

2006 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

What at first glance appears to be a deep bowl is in fact a raised platter with an almost flat surface. Kuroda's works are much sought after in Japan and have been championed by avant-garde figures such as the fashion designer Miyake Issey and the architect Ando Tadao. Their minimalist forms are executed in pure white porcelain with a slightly matt texture, which gives them a moderating warmth. They lend themselves particularly well to use as food vessels and are favoured by up-market restaurants of a contemporary bent.
