Place of origin

This dressing-up costume was given to the donor as a Christmas present from her parents. It was sold as merchandise to accompany the television series Emergency Ward 10, one of the UK's first major soap operas.
Dressing-up costumes give children an avenue for roleplay, exploring the roles of adults but they can also be characters from history, fantasy or fiction. A nurse costume has, in the past, been a popular choice for girls, as this was seen as a traditional profession for women to enter into. This costume set was tied in to a popular television programme in a bid to increase its profile in the toy market.
