Hey! Pres-to Shapes With Wonderful 'Plasticine'

Plasticine Play Set
1969 (manufactured)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Plasticine is a modelling material, formulated by art teacher William Harbutt in 1897. It is formulated to not dry on exposure to air (unlike Play-Doh) and cannot be hardened by firing. As well as being a popular arts and craft toy for children, it has been used often in animation, famously with Nick Park's characters Wallace & Gromit.

This set was owned by Caroline Egan, who received it as a 9th birthday present from a school friend, in 1969. The set came with several different colours of plasticine, and several moulds made of plaster, which were for moulding the plasticine. The moulds include animals, plants, and the head of a school master and Native American in headress.
