This magic set is a classic of the 1950s. Toy magic sets were first produced in the late nineteenth century, but their popularity waned somewhat in the twentieth century, until a resurgence of interest when magic began to be performed on television.
This set includes several illusion tricks, such as the Disappearing Egg, where sleight of hand appears to make an egg disappear using a black bag, but also some trick puzzles such as the Horse and Rider puzzle and Coil and Spring puzzle. It originally included a Chinese Finger Trap, as can be seen on the box lid which is more commonly thought of as a practical joke: this is a woven tube where the victim inserts a finger from each hand, and on pulling them apart to remove the tube, finds that the tube tightens further.
