After the riot police in Prague inflicted violent injuries on the peaceful crowd during the demonstration of 17 November 1989, the Czech students identified with the Chinese students in Tiananmen Square, whose peaceful protests a few months earlier had been violently crushed by army tanks. This exhibition of photographs of the events in Beijing, held at Prague's Klement Gottwald Museum, was a bold condemnation of both Communist governments as well as an expression of sympathy and solidarity for the Chinese students.
