Place of origin |
This is an updated version of the classic Scrabble board game format, retitled Scrabble Trickster. Scrabble was first manufactured in 1948, and gameplay involved taking turns to form words from letter tiles in a crossword format. This version has the addition of new markings on the classic board, which give the player a chance to use a 'trickster' card. These include instructions such as "Steal your opponent's last score", "Spell a word ANYWHERE on the board" or "Spell a word backwards". Scrabble Trickster has been controversial among traditional Scrabble players, and particularly with the North American Scrabble Players Association which runs annual tournaments, for allowing players to use proper nouns, something that has been outlawed since the original version was created. For this reason, the North American copyright holder, Hasbro Inc., has never released it in that territory.
