Costume design for ladies at Ascot in My Fair Lady
1958
Cecil Beaton designed the award-winning costumes for the Broadway, West End and film productions of My Fair Lady. Set in the 1910s, Beaton took inspiration from the work of fashion designers Paul Poiret and Lucile, as well as events like the ‘Black Ascot’ of 1910 when attendees wore black to mourn the recent death of King Edward VII.
