Bag face of knotted wool pile.
Field design: dark red ground with three rows of three guls. The gul is a stepped cross outlined in alternately dark blue and blue. The outer part is quartered in red and white. In the centre is a dark blue or blue cross hooked at each terminal. At its centre is a dark red lozenge and within that and between each hook, is a yellow or white floret, all within a hexagon. There are two and two half bands each with two and two half crosses composed of blocks of red, dark blue and blue, hooked in white over an X-motif in dark blue and blue.
Main border: dark red ground with X-motifs with hooks in red, yellow, two shades of blue and white.
Inner and outer border: a line and two half lines of diamonds; the complete diamond is dark red and the halves are in the other colours.
Outermost border (not at the top): undecorated dark red border along both sides, but decorated along the bottom with a band of blue sprigs with yellow and white florets.
Elem (at upper end): dark red ground with 7 upside down floral stems, alternating blue and dark blue, ending in a pair of horns; between each is a dark red diamond containing four florets. The diamond is outlined in red and light red, dark blue and blue, the outlines extended to form a pair of horns above and below decorated with a small yellow or white horn.
WARP: light brown wool; Z2S; 14 threads per inch (56 per dm).
WEFT: brown wool; Z2S; 2 shoots after every row of knots; 11 knots per inch (43 per dm).
PILE: wool; 8 colours: dark red, red, light red, yellow, dark blue, blue, dark brown, white; asymmetrical knot open to the left and tied around 2 threads; 77 knots per sq. inch (1204 per sq. dm).
SIDE FINISH: one cord oversewn with red wool; later oversewn with pink wool.
END FINISH: Lower: 4 cms plain weave with bands of cream, dark brown and blue weft, turned under and stitch in place with dark brown wool. Upper: missing; later oversewn with blue wool.
