Children's Tapestry

Tapestry Set
late 1950s (manufactured)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The donor was given this Chad Valley Children's Tapestry as a gift, but because she was tomboy, only a small amount of kit was completed. Chad Valley is a long-established brand of toys in the United Kingdom. The company was one of the UK's leading toymakers for most of the 20th century and was first registered in 1897 when the original company of Johnson Brothers added games to its stationery range. The Chad Valley trademark was bought in 1988 by Woolworth's, but since Woolworth's closure, it is now available exclusively in Argos.

Object history
This object belonged to Jean Walker, born 17th April 1949. With this particular object, the donor remembers that as the only girl in her family she was given many sewing and craft related gifts. As a tomboy however, gifts like this Tapestry set didn't get completed. This object was found, along with others, in the loft of the donors parents home having survived two house moves.
