This white outer-kimono is probably part of an elborate bridal set. The boldly patterned ground has been embroidered with chrysanthemums and butterflies, no two of which are the same. Special orders for wedding garments and accessories were the most time-consuming for kimono makers to fulfil. Only the most skilled artisans would be employed to create pieces for the wealthiest clients.
