Place of origin |
This is one of the chintz hangings sent to the actor David Garrick and his wife from Calcutta in 1775, and impounded by customs on their arrival in England. The set includes several other curtains and valances (17 and 18-1906, and W.70a-k-1916). This curtain was probably intended to hang at the foot of the bed. It and 17 and 18-1906 were acquired by the donor at the sale of the contents of the Garricks' villa in 1864.
