Palampore

ca. 1700 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This incomplete chintz hanging may have been used as part of a set of bed hangings or as a wall panel. Its superbly detailed drawing and precision dyeing make it one of the finest early export chintzes to have survived. Its sinuous tree and large imaginary blossoms are typical of the late 17th and early 18th century chintzes exported to Europe.
