Object history | Theodor Bogler wa a student at the Bauhaus pottery workshop at Dornburg, near Weimar, from 1920. He became business director in 1923. These two pieces, teapot (C.90:1,2-1994) and sugar bowl (C.1:1,2-1995), were bought from Galerie Ulrich Fiedler, Cologne. They had been acquired by Fiedler from an auction at Ketterer Kunst, Munich. Both items had formerly been in the personal possession of Theodor Bogler. According to the auction house, Bogler died as a monk in Maria Laach Abbey, leaving various ceramics, drawings, prints, etc. to the son of a very close friend, a painter, who had been using the pieces unconcernedly since he had acquired them, unaware of their historical importance or value. |
