19th century (made)
Place of origin

Turcoman bag face.

PILE: wool: 6 colours: dark red, red, dark yellow, green, dark blue, white; symmetrical knot (but with some single warp knots towards the left hand side of the elem tied around each thread and not alternate ones); mostly tied around 2 warp threads but with some rows around 4 (perhaps to increase the width of the elem ) and showing wear; 143 knots per sq. inch (2014 per sq. dm).

SIDE FINISH: Left: evidence of one cord oversewn with dark red wool. Right: missing.

Main border: white ground with a central stem across which an angular S shape lies at right angles at intervals.

Inner and outer border reciprocal 'running dog' pattern in red and dark blue outlined in dark yellow.

Elem: the deep elem is of solid dark red wool.

Uppermost band: incomplete: a dark red ground with some evidence of green motifs outlined in red. NB: the main and inner and outer border design often found in soumak weaving.
