Caucasian carpet.

WARP: grey and brown wool; Z3S; 10-12 threads per inch (42-52 per dm).

WEFT: brown wool; Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots, occasionally 3 shoots; 7 knots per inch (26-31 per dm)

PILE: wool; 11 colours: red, orange (isolated knots... about a dozen in all), yellow, green, light green, blue, pink, dark brown, light brown, black, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; average of 39 knots per sq. inch (average 676 per sq. dm).

SIDE FINISH: cut

END FINISH: missing

DESIGN: Field: dark brown ground with central four red linked diamonds. The edge of the red field has a reciprocal serration in dark green and the dark brown field has one in yellow. The medallions contain a complex, stylised rosette and other small quartered diamonds are on the red areas and there are squares and rosettes on the dark brown areas.

Main border (top and bottom only): red ground with stars in a double meander and flowers separated by red and green stripes on the lower band and yellow and dark brown on the upper. The flowers have been stars in the upper border.

Inner and outer border (top and bottom only): blue ground with narrow foliate meander.

Guard stripes: Lower: (1) pink with green diagonal; (2) green with pink; (3) green with red; (4) red with green. Upper: (1) red with black; (2) black with yellow; (3) yellow with black; (4) pink with black.
