This satirical poster by cartoonist Vladimír Jiránek is his critical comment on the communists attempts to cling on to their positions after the ‘Velvet Revolution’ in Czechoslovakia. It depicts the people’s common wish to ‘kick them out’, starting at government level end ending with positions of authority held by the ‘nomenclature’ (the Communist Party elite) all around the country.

Two departing officials, outlined in red, have a footprint on their behinds, having been literally kicked out of office; the handwritten legend, printed in blue, translates from the Czech as "Unfortunately, our rule book doesn't know of any other way to leave..." The red and blue inks together with the white paper symbolise the Czech national colours. |
