The Tallent company was formed in1958 by Roy Tallent and traded under the name of Roy Tallent (Plating) Ltd. In 1955 the Colston company took ownership and extended the product range to include domestic appliances, paraffin heaters, washing machines, cooker hobs, microwaves and gas fire cases. In 1988, the company underwent a management buyout by three directors who set a strategy to become a global automotive supplier of chassis structural products. In 1992, the company was purchased by Thyssen AG.

'Tallent' paraffin oil convector heater, enamelled and chromed steel, Durham, made by Tallent (Ayshire) Ltd., designed by Cecil T. Howard, 1958. Winner of the Design Centre Award 1958.
Physical description
Paraffin oil convector heater, enamelled steel, rectangular upright, resting on two feet, the side panels of olive green enamel tapered towards the top, horizontal slated grill, chromium plated across the top, the front rectangular panel of brown enamel, a small rectangular a control panel with three knobs in a row in the centre of the front panel. The top of the heater has a curved carrying handle.
