This book of poetry was written by the McCorkell children as a Christmas present for their father in 1926.
Oona (b.1910), Kathleen (b.1911), Leslie (b.1916) and Pakenham (b.1923) were the four children of Dudley and Helen McCorkell. They lived in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The children wrote poems which were put into books and presented to their father as Christmas and Easter presents. The daughters lived into their nineties, but Pakenham died in 1944.
The poems in this book are credited to Oona, Kathleen and Leslie McCorkell. The poems included in the book are entitled 'When I Woke up on Christmas Morn', 'Going to Church', 'Tea at Aunts', 'Evening', 'This Years Nonsense' (a collection of limericks), 'Fairy Boats', 'The Gulls Warning', 'Woolworths', 'The Boy Next Door', 'Grafton Street', 'The Storm Off Plymouth', 'Nature', 'Night', 'My Secret', and 'The Elfman in the Garden'.

Two images have been stuck to the front cover of the book, a black and white photo of a winter scene outside a church (some of which has been coloured in), and a print of a girl in a blue dress sitting at a table, with a woman in a red and green outfit in the foreground. Two picture of dragons have been stuck on the back cover. Book is bound with thread, cover is attached with yellow ribbon. |
