This clockwork toy boat, in the shape of a naval missile ship and made of plastic and metal, was manufactured by Scalex, a subsidiary of Lines Bros. Ltd. in the late 1960s. It is one of a series of plastic clockwork boats produced by Scalex, using the Tri-ang trademark. It would have been played with in the bath, paddling pool or other small area of water, such as a pond.

Historical context
This toy was one of a number of nautical-themed toys and games produced by Lines Bros. in the 1960s and early 1970s. It is one of a series of clockwork plastic boats produced by Scalex around this period, which also included sailing boats, tugboats and speedboats. It would have been played with in the bath or paddling pool.
