Place of origin |
Cigarette card album entitled 'Animals of the Countryside', issued by John Player & Sons, Great Britain, ca. 1940s.
Collectable cards were added to packets of cigarettes from the 1870s, first in America and later in Britain. In the late 19th century, cigarette cards commonly featured themes designed to interest men, as there were more male smokers then female. Cards would feature miltary images, sports stars and vehicles.
Cigarette cards are still very collectable, with some rarer collections being highly sought after.
