French often left the actual release of the shutter
to his assistants. On this occasion however, he
inserted himself into the picture, kneeling behind
a tripod-mounted Rolleiflex with the shutter
release cable in his hand. His crouched, slightly
rumpled presence gives a sense of behind-thescenes
studio work and contrasts playfully with
the polished elegance of the model beside him.
