Pair of Vases

c.1912-26 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The copper bodies of these vases have applied silver rims and base plates. The beige enamel ground is decorated simply with a wide central border of silver yusen lilies (probably a type of day-lily, Hemerocallis) and leaves in varied shades of brown with white enamel highlights. The counter-enamel is of a dark brown, as are the inner bases, which carry the silver yusen mark of the Ando Company. The vases have an associated box with the ink signature Jubei saku (made by Jubei ) and the red seal of Ando Jubei. There is also a paper label with the inscription Jubei saku together with a description of the lily decoration.
