Vase
c.1960
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This tall copper vase has an applied chrome-plated rim and base plate. The design of chrysanthemum flowers and leaves has been executed in the technique called tsuiki-jippo, where the design is hammered into the body and then covered in silver foil prior to enamelling. In this case, the vase has been decorated in various shades of green, white, yellow and purple transparent enamels. The dull matt brown counter-enamel, which is also used inside the foot, is often associated with work of the Ando Company of Nagoya, which still produces very similar work today.
