Vase

ca. 1950-60 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The vase has a copper body with an applied silver rim and silver base plate, which has the jungin mark. The rich dark green ground is decorated with large-headed yellow and white narcissi in a combination of shaded silver yusen, shosen and musen enamels. The faint colours of the flowers and the vanishing stems have an almost ethereal quality. The decoration is distinctly modern in feel and does not follow or imitate any recognisably traditional Japanese style. The matt counter-enamel is of a similar colour to the ground of the vase; the same enamel has been applied to the base, which has the mark of the Ando Company in silver yusen enamels.
