Vase

c.1912-26 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The copper body has an applied silver rim and silver base plate with the jungin mark. The blue enamel ground is covered with a design of abstract geometric scrolling flowers in silver yusen and shosen. The flowers, possibly based on a form of tree peony, and leaves are executed in subtle shades of blue that complement the ground colour. The counter-enamel is a dark matt-brown colour, as is the interior of the foot, which has the silver yusen mark of the Ando Company. Stylistically, and according to the Ando Company archives, the vase is likely to date to the Taisho period (1912-1926).
