The dish has a copper body with an applied silver rim and silver base plate. There is a central silver yusen enamel design of a mythical Ho-o (phoenix) in shades of green, blue, red and white enamels. The Ho-o is surrounded by a stylised floral and leaf pattern. The sides of the dish are decorated with abstract yusen geometric patterning within two narrow white enamel bands. The ground of the dish is a dull green enamel colour. The inner base plate has the mark of the Inaba Cloisonné Company, the third generation head of which has proposed a date of 1910-1920 (private communication with Mr Inaba Katsumi).
