Gallery label
The aesthetic of punk pushed graphic design in fresh directions. A new decade saw a flourishing of smart, startling record art which drew from multiple sources simultaneously. Independent record labels in particular created adventurous record sleeves which challenged traditions of marketing. The Squeeze album art is Pop Art at its brightest, while Barney Bubbles designed abstract splashes and shapes that echoed the energy of the museum inside. Confident pop imagery used hooks as memorable as the songs themselves.(2019)
