This poster is part of a genre of religious posters celebrating the Shi'ite faith. It depicts the 12 Imams, who Shi'ites believe were the rightful leaders of the Muslim people after the prophet Muhammad died. The twelve Imam is said to have been hidden from view when he was young to protect him from rivals. For this reason he is often depicted without a face because no one knows what he looked like. Posters like this one are commonly displayed in Iranian homes, workplaces and religious buildings.
