Such boldly-coloured geometric abstract patterns were popular for wallpaper borders in the 1920s and early 1930s. They were often used in conjunction with neutral-coloured textured wallpapers. This vivid angular kind of pattern is typical of the Art Deco style as it was interpreted for the mass-market; it is sometimes described as 'Moderne' or Jazz-Age'.
