Carpet woven with a woollen knotted pile on a cotton warp and weft. Blue centre field patterned with floral motifs.
WARP: white wool and cotton; Z5S; 1 woollen thread and 4 cotton ones; 12 threads per inch (46 per dm).
WEFT: white cotton; Z3S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 7-9 knots per inch (32 per sq. dm).
PILE: wool; 13 colours: red, yellow, green, light green, dark blue, blue, light blue, dark purple, purple, dark brown, black, light black, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 warp threads; 48 knots per sq. inch (736 per sq. dm).
SIDE FINISH: 1 cord over sewn with dark brown, black and light black wool.
END FINISH: Lower: incomplete but with 2.5 cms. plain weave with one line of weft twining with yellow and brown wool and then passes of red and light blue wool. The warp loops have been twisted and secured with a single knot immediately below the plain weave. Upper: 2 cms plain weave with purple, green and purple wefts with knotted ends.
DESIGN: Field: dark blue ground with bands of five or six botehs in various colours.
Main border: red and green diagonal stripes.
Inner and outer borders: white ground with black octagons framing a large pentagonal flowerhead.
Outermost border: reciprocal red/black trefoils.
