Waistcoat, single-breasted, grey cloth, ca. 1967.

Dark grey twill wool fronts, grey synthetic fabric back; body lined throughout with grey and white striped synthetic fabric; pocket bags made of grey cotton. Single-breasted, fastening with five self-covered buttons with a shawl collar stitched down at collar bone height. The fronts are cut in a 'V' at the hem creating an inverted 'V' at the CF when the waistcoat is fastened. The waistcoat has four single welted pockets, two at the breast and two below. It is shaped at the front with a pair of vertical darts running from the hem to the breast. There is a short vent between the front and back panels at the hem. The back is cut in two pieces and its fullness can be adjusted with a self-fabric waist adjuster fastening with a base metal buckle stamped 'BRITISH' and 'MAKE'.

This waistcoat was worn by Charles Lucas with the suit he purchased for his wedding in 1967.

This grey twill wool waistcoat was purchased by Charles Lucas to wear with a light grey suit which he purchased for his wedding in 1967. Lucas wore his wedding suit on other occasions after his wedding but the condition of this waistcoat, which shows more signs of wear than the suit, suggests that he wore the waistcoat with a variety of outfits over a long period of time. Its colour and classic single-breasted cut made it very versatile.
