Untitled (from the Mineralogy series) no. 4

Drawing
2004 (drawn)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Tania Kovats graduated from the RCA in 1990. Although primarily a sculptor, she works in a variety of media. The central concern of her practice is the experience and understanding of landscape. She has described her particular interest in landscapes which are 'geographically explicit' and in which 'you can clearly read the narrative of formation or erosion'.

This untitled drawing from her 'Mineralogy' series is clearly related to these concerns and investigations. The imagery is ambiguous and can be read either as a crystalline growth or as a rocky outcrop or a geological formation.
