Rough Sketch in pen and ink on cream paper, the ink now faded to rust brown. It shows Laurence Olivier (1907-1989) and Vivien Leigh (1913-1967) in a production of The School for Scandal, by the Old Vic Theatre Company, in 1948.

This 1948 production was directed by Laurence Olivier who also played the role of Sir Peter Teazle. Vivien Leigh played Lady Teazle. The production toured Australia and New Zealand.

Physical description
Rough Sketch in pen and ink on cream paper, the ink now faded to rust brown. It shows Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh in a production of The School for Scandal, at the Old Vic Theatre, in 1948. Lines of ink and shading in pencil and pen have been used to depict a huddled group of figures in mid-late eighteenth century dress. The four dominant figures are standing against a backdrop of high pillars and high arches, three are male (the two on the right shown in profile and the other, on the left, shown from behind), the fourth and central figure is female and faces towards the front.
