Object history
The set of 12 pieces of walnut drawing room furniture dating from the 1860s was given by the Reverend J. Septimus Powell, Deal, in 1961. Comprising a table Circ.203-1961, a set of six chairs Circ.204-209, an armchair Circ.210-1961, a low chair Circ.211-1961, a davenport desk Circ.212-1961, a music stool Circ.213-1961 and a sideboard Circ.214-1961. Originally part of Circulation department, items from the set been on long-term loan to various museums: the table to Wakefield museum (returned 1995), the set of six chairs and two easy chairs to Leighton House, London, and a few of the set afterwards to Torre Abbey,Torbay (returned 2012), and the desk to Preston Hall Museum, Stockton on Tees (returned 2008).
