Object history | Registered File number 1993/2138, Streetstyle exhibition 1994-1995, in the exhibition it was part of a Preppy outfit (that includes the jacket T.586-1993, the shirt T.587-1993 and the tie T.588-1993). Part of an ensemble consisting of a tailored beige wool jacket, white shirt and navy blue knitted silk tie, with later replica trousers in brown wool. This outfit represented the Ivy League/Preppy look (representing the 1950s look). |
Historical context | This was a style of mens' dress popular from the late 1940s onwards, associated with American college campus style and the clothes worn by the student athletes. The clothes mainly used natural fabrics such as wool and cotton, button-down collars, and penny loafers. |
