Object history
This object was formerly in the collection of Barbara Morris, and was bequeathed by her to the Museum. Morris, who had worked in the V&A's Circulation Department, was a pioneer in the study of Victorian and Edwardian Decorative Arts. She had a particular interest in ceramics and glass of the period, examples of which she collected avidly. The figures of Naomi and her daughters-in-law on this jug were taken from a painting by Henry Nelson O'Neill (1817-1880) and were probably modelled by Hugues. Protât modelled the same subject as a group for Minton & Co.
