Object history
This costume and its companion for the Queen of Spring are good examples of textile painting. The painting on the costumes is the work of John Cowell, one of the leading textile painters working in Britain. The King of Spring's costume was worn by Peter Ottevanger in a later revival of the ballet, not at its premiere. Associated production: The Snow Queen. Designer: Terry Bartlett. Wearer and dancer: Peter Ottevanger. Character: The King of Spring. Performing company: Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet. Birmingham Hippodrome, 28.4.1986 (original production).
