Object history | Part of the Palitoy Archive, produced while Airfix was part of General Mills UK |
Historical context | Dinky Toys had been a trademark of Meccano Ltd, Liverpool. Meccano was bought by Airfix Products Ltd in 1971 when the Lines Brothers group was sold. In 1979, Airfix sold the Liverpool factories producing both Meccano and Dinky due to financial problems. Airfix itself went into receivership late 1981. As this toy was produced in Hong Kong, it is likelyto have been produced between 1979 and 1981 as the address given is London, SW18. However, possibly it was made while under the umbrella of Palitoy until 1984. |
