Hat of turban shape, made of stiff cotton covered with embroidery. The pattern is composed of silver roses on a gold ground, and the whole is worked in couched stitch, with touches of red in satin stitch. Towards the back is a scarlet silk thread.

Object history
This hat came into the Museum as part of a set with a magenta pink coat, blue tunic, red waistcoat, green trousers, scarlet leather leggings and silver and coral plait decorations. George Sherriff (1898-1967), the renowned plant hunter who donated them to the Museum, recorded that he acquired them in Khotan, a town in today's Xinjiang Region of China.
